COVID-19, Atlantic Bubble and New Regulations

• Residents may now go in the community to access essential services (shopping, banking, etc.), or to a designated visitor’s home;

• Residents who choose to leave the residential care home overnight or longer must be screened for risk of exposure to, or symptoms of, COVID-19 upon return to the home and monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 daily for 14 days post return. During times of low prevalence of COVID-19, as determined by Public Health, testing prior to placement and isolation of residents prior to or upon return to the home is not required;

• Residents who choose to go on vacation out of province:

  1. If the resident travels to any province within the “Atlantic bubble” the resident is screened for risk of exposure to, or symptoms of COVID-19, upon return to the home, and monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 daily for 14 days post return. Testing and isolation are not required; and,
  2. If the resident travels to any other location with the exception of provinces within the “Atlantic bubble”, the resident is screened, tested for COVID-19 and must complete a 14-day isolation period prior to or upon returning to the home.

We Will Begin to Schedule Visits

Starting June 13, 2020, we will begin scheduling 1-hour visits with your loved ones. To ensure this process is organized and remains safe, the following must be adhered to:
• One (1) designated visitor per resident. This individual will remain the same for the duration of the visitation restrictions;
• All visits must be scheduled prior to arrival;
• Each resident is currently limited to one (1) visit per week until all residents have a chance to see their loved one;
• Visiting hours are between 10am and 7pm;
• No visits can happen during meal time;
• A visitor must wear a provided mask and remain in the resident’s room, or
designated area; and,
• All visitors must complete and pass the self-assessment screening, check in and out,
and follow all instructions prior to beginning the visit.

Packages for Our Residents

Effective May 25, 2020, all Lanes locations will accept delivery of packages to our residents, pending no increase in COVID-19 cases (with some restrictions).

1. Deliveries are to be scheduled with the location manager by calling the location directly.
2. Deliveries are to occur during business hours only, 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
3. Deliveries are to be left outside the main entrance at your pre-scheduled time.
4. Physical distancing guidelines should continue to be observed.

The location manager will accept your package and ensure it is properly disinfected before delivering it to its recipient.

Existing Public Health Orders continue to restrict the following:

1. Flowers are not permitted at this time.
2. Prepared/homemade/restaurant/take-out food is not permitted.
3. Perishable goods are not permitted.

A Thank You to Our Healthcare Workers

COVID-19 Personal Packages From Family and Friends

Effective immediately, we are not allowing personal packages into our retirement communities from family and friends, with the exception of essentials and emergencies (please see the attached memo for complete details).

COVID-19 Memo From Eastern Health (pertains to our Carbonear property only)

Effective immediately, residents of Personal Care Homes that fall within the Eastern Health region are no longer permitted to receive take out, meals, snacks, etc. from family members. This does not include the delivery of regular food supplies to the facility.

COVID-19 Local Response and Visitation Restriction

Dear Family and Friends;

The COVID-19 situation is continuing to gain traction. As of March 14, 2020, the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health announced the first presumptive case in Newfoundland and Labrador.

At Lane’s Retirement Living, our priority is to serve and care for our residents and ensure they remain safe from harm. Given the vulnerability of seniors in particular, we are now restricting visitation at all locations.

Effective March 16, 2020, a full restriction on guests and visitors at all locations will be in effect. This means NO visitors will be permitted at our retirement communities located in Carbonear, Botwood, Irishtown-Summerside, and Port Saunders, until the COVID-19 situation ends and these restrictions are lifted.

We realize this is a significant decision to make and that isolation can be difficult for residents; however, we feel the risks associated with having non-essential people in the building are significant enough to warrant this decision.

With respect to our staff, please be assured that any employee who has travelled out-of-province will not be allowed to report for work and will self-isolate for the required 14 day period. Anyone who is feeling ill, has come into contact with the virus, or is symptomatic in any way, will not report for work. Instead, they will be required to self-isolate and/or seek treatment as required.
